Meeting with the anthropologist Anne Chapman

In March 2009 we were able to become acquainted with the anthropologist Anne Chapman during her last visit to Ushuaia, Tierra del Fuego.

She was recognized for her important anthropological work, especially on the Selknam culture, but on the Haush and Yámana culture as well. In her research she developed friendships with her informers, including grandmother Cristina Calderón. In this way we also connected with her and her work.

In this meeting she told us of her experiences working in Tierra del Fuego. We were especially interested in what she had to say about her meeting with the ethnologist Martin Gusinde, who had worked with Cristina’s great-grandfather in the 1920s.
